Modules at the Graduate Institute for the Executive Certificate on Environmental Governance

Last month, GIWEH conducted two modules at the Graduate Institute as part of the Executive Certificate on Environmental Governance.

Dr. Nidal Salim, Director General of GIWEH, delivered two lecture on Wednesday March 15th, on “Water Resources: Setting the Context” and “Water Governance: Stakeholders and Policy Frameworks”.

The first session “Setting the Context” aimed to provide an overview of the state of water resources around the world today. It demonstrated that where and how we interact holds great impact on the future, and is key to sustainability.

The second session “Water Governance: Stakeholders and Policy Frameworks” highlighted how the water sector holds intrinsic characteristics that makes it highly sensitive to and dependent on multi- level governance and how water crises are often primary ``governance`` crises. The session provided an introduction of the stakeholders acting in the field of water and their interactions (multilevel governance) and highlighted governance challenges and opportunities.

Among participants to this module were senior professionals from International Organisations (such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the International Committee of the Red Cross or the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP)), Ministries and International NGOs (the WWF).
