WATER SECURITY

UN-Water defined Water security in 2013 as the capacity of a population to safeguard sustainable access to adequate quantities of acceptable quality water for sustaining livelihoods, human well-being, and socio-economic development, for ensuring protection against water-borne pollution and water-related disasters, and for preserving ecosystems in a climate of peace and political stability.

GIWEH was founded with the vision to work for the water development and security. GIWEH believes in sustainable water resources and reliable availability for everyone, especially in water scarce areas.

Previously, GIWEH has worked on different research projects related to water security and integration. We are inviting researchers and students to do research under the following themes but not limited to:

  • How can we create awareness among masses?
  • How will the effects of climate change impact on water security?
  • What are the implications on society and the environment?
  • How can water resources stand up to, for example, a 'three-winter drought' or similar?
  • Population and environment has great role to play in water security. How can we achieve water security under pressure of massive population growth and natural hazards?
  • How can sustainable flows be maintained in rivers?
  • Long term Impacts of environmental change on water resources in the Basin?
  • Case studies
