World Water Week 2014 in Stockholm – Upcoming Event

GIWEH will be participating in the upcoming 2014 World Water Week in Stockholm as a co-convener under the Swiss Water Partnership (SWP). The collective theme of the co-convenors from the SWP will be titled “Tackling trade-offs between water and energy across sectors and scales.”

The World Water Week in Stockholm, hosted and organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), is a week-long global water conference which has been held annually since 1991 to address a wide range of the world’s water, development and sustainability issues.

Each year the conference brings together hundreds of delegates and convening organizations that come to exchange their views, experiences, and practices between the scientific, business, policy and civic communities. The thematic focus has been different every year since 2008, yet the aim is always to provide a platform for new thinking and positive action toward water-related challenges and their impact on the world’s environment, health, climate, economic and poverty reduction.

Last year’s theme was “Water Cooperation- Building Partnerships” where 2600 delegates  and 50 exhibitors from 130 countries attended the World Water Week and participated in the seminars, ide events, workshops, and social events  organized by the 270 convenors.

In 2014 the World Water Week in Stockholm will be held from the 31 August to 5 September and will focus on “Energy and Water”.

The seminar prepared by the convening SWP and its co-convenors highlights the main challenges in achieving water, energy and food security and explores promising solutions (demand side, supply side and creating shared benefits) across sectors and scales to foster synergies and minimize trade-offs.
